uk ancestors

full genealogical research service

For those who have wondered about their ancestors - where they were born, who they married, what they did for a living, where they died - we will endeavour to find the answers.

The trail may lead from one country to another - to England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales or indeed to Continental Europe - but wherever it leads we will do all that is possible to follow it. Research in Ireland is generally more difficult than elsewhere in the British Isles because of the loss of many records in 1922; nevertheless progress can often be made. The research that we carry out on your behalfon your behalf can be as broad or as narrow as you wish. We can confine ourselves to the paternal line, or we can trace the paternal and maternal ancestors of both your parents - and those of your wife or husband. The choice is yours. How many generations back we research, that too is your decision.

In England and Wales most families can be traced back to the start of Civil Registration in 1837. It is usually possible to trace one branch of the family back to the 1700s in the first phase of research. Further research may take the family back to the start of parish registers in 1538, and even beyond. However much will depend on the mobility of the family being researched and the frequency of occurrence of the surname(s). Nevertheless, our research will always provide compelling reading for all your family.

On completion of each stage of research you will receive a bound report of our findings. This will include a detailed narrative on the records searched and the results obtained, including all documents obtained. Reports will be accompanied by a computer-generated family tree based on the information you originally provided and the results of our research. Additionally, should you be interested, family trees can be designed in any style or size you wish, suitable for displaying in your home or for distribution to other members of your family.

The more information that can be given at the outset the better: dates, occupations, places and, of course, names, plus parents, children and siblings if known. A 'tree' however roughly drawn can be of great help as this quickly shows relationships- or you can use the outline pedigree chart provided.

WHAT TO DO NOW

If you would like further information then please contact us. Alternatively, complete and post the Research Application Form. We will then contact you to discuss your project in more detail.

Because the results of research cannot be predicted with any certainty we ask initially for only £350.00, or a compatible figure in other currencies (e.g. US$650), to cover the first phase. Once this is completed you will receive a report that will enable you to decide if you wish to continue research. The first stage of research should be completed in 12-14 weeks.
